After losing to friendlies during the winter break, Celtic returned to league action with a positive 2-0 win over Hamilton Academy. After this victory, manager Ronny Deila revealed his ambitions to take the club back to the top of the table.
The victory moved Celtic to within two points of table leaders Aberdeen, although they have two more games in hand. This could potentially see Celtic back as the table leaders in the next few months. Deila has been criticised heavily during the first half of his regime, but the Norwegian is now close to winning over the entire section of supporters.
Should the transfer window break the squad by taking a couple of key names to the Premier league,Deila will have to work extremely hard in order to get them back to full strength.
Even though Celtic have two matches in hand, Deila says that they will only count if the club takes the maximum of six points from those matches. It may prove to be difficult given that the Scottish outfit have been highly inconsistent in the league this season.Kris Commons is one of the players linked with a move away from the club. Championship outfit Bolton are interested in him, but Deila has rejected those speculation once again.
“You know the points you get they can’t take away from you. You can think we have two games more [in hand] but that’s not the point. We need to get the points and if we win now then we are ahead. If we are top of the league then they have to do something to get it back and we have to ruin it. We want to have it in our hands and that’s why the two next games are so important for the league. If I didn’t want him [Commons] and he didn’t want to stay it would be finished now. He’s not leaving in January,” said Deila.
